999 Emergency Services Cenotaph - Wear a coloured item - 3 December 2021
We are supporting a national charity campaign tomorrow aimed at raising the funds to build the UK’s first ‘999 Cenotaph’. Almost 2 million people work and volunteer across the NHS and emergency services today, including 250,000 first responders. The Emergency Services Cenotaph will honour everybody who has ever served in the NHS and emergency services – from call handlers, administrative staff and porters to first responders, nurses and GPs. Those on the frontline could not do their jobs without people working hard behind the scenes.
The intention is that this important national monument will be located on Whitehall, London, standing 21 feet tall and includes six 8’ figures: police, fire, paramedic, nurse, maritime volunteer and search and rescue volunteer wearing the uniform they would wear when responding to a 999 call. There is also a statue of a spaniel dog to represent the important role of service animals.
Students will be showing their support by wearing a small item of blue, green, red or orange (the colours of the emergency services) on Friday 3 December, alongside their full uniform, in return donating at least 50p towards the 999 Cenotaph.
For a minimum donation of 50p, payable on Friday at the student entrance, students can wear any of the following BLUE, GREEN, RED or ORANGE items in addition to their normal, full school uniform: tie, socks, hair bobbles/scrunchies/ribbon, belt, or shoe laces or ribbons as shoe laces. Students might prefer to wear a coloured badge instead, or a loop of ribbon secured to blazers using a safety pin. We know students will be imaginative. They must also wear full uniform.
Student Voice will be selling loops of ribbon to wear on blazer lapels during Friday, before school, at break and at lunchtimes, for a minimum donation of 50p.
Parents can show their support by texting ‘Hero 1’ to 70500 to donate £1. If you would like to donate more than £1, visit

Thank you in anticipation of your support, it is appreciated.
